Amy, She’s a Firecracker

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Okay, short story about this song - it’s meant to be inspired by the beautiful movie Junebug but I kinda came up with the whole thing right after my first viewing of it and later discovered that I mixed up the actress’ name, Amy, with the character’s name, Ashley … I kept the name Amy ‘cos I just got used to it and I think it’s a slightly more lyrical name, though I’m sure I might use Ashley some time too.

She smiles though the world around her collapses
Perhaps it’s pain, perhaps it’s
Pleasure keeps her strong.

And she loves her loves more than herself
She stores her own hangups on a shelf
And when she’s hurting, she just sings a song.

And Amy, she’s a firecracker
Stronger than diamonds, just look at her
She’ll never let the shit shit kick her down
Firecracker takes the crown.

She fears naught but being alone,
And she tears up thinking ’bout leaving home
‘Cos family’s all that means about everything to her.

And her smile fuels everyone around
It fills their empty hearts ‘n makes ‘em proud
To see someone just like them only free from fear

And Amy, she’s a firecracker
Stronger than diamonds, just look at her
She’ll never let the shit shit kick her down
Firecracker takes the crown

And now new life is growing in her tummy
So much hope, she gonna be a mommy
Seems like finally something’s going right.

[Instrumental sadness]

But Amy, she’s a firecracker
Stronger than diamonds just, just look at her
She’ll never let the shit shit kick her down …
She’ll never let the shit shit kick her down,
Firecracker takes the crown.

(Don’t you worry bout)
Amy, she’s a firecracker
Bounces right back, back, just, just, just look at her
Never lets the shit shit kick her down
Firecracker’s leaving town.

Society’s Game

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Mr. Hawking posed the question
Could we last another century?
Little me’s got one suggestion
Just put an end to fury
Stop everything.

Yes that’s the answer, we must change
Look back in time, it’s all the rage
Think of how we left the ocean
Of how we freed the slaves
Everything changes

But you, you’re all the same
Just a pile of flesh and bone
Blindly rushing, without aims
To a pile of flesh and bone

Getting too attached

And I see the answers clear
The answer’s we must change
Yes, you’re part of the problem
If you play society’s game

Everything’s so black and white
We deny and think we’ve come so
Far from Nazis, far from Huns
But look around, still holding guns–
Think we’re smarter, think we’re safer
When we could blow worlds away for
For nothing but a piece of paper
And one field of oil?

Jackass in the hotseat, joker
Guess who put him there?
Nevermind I see that you’re
More worried about your hair.

Oh yes! we’re all the same
Just a pile of flesh and bone
Blindly rushing, without aims,
To a pile of flesh and bone

Getting too attached

And I see the answer here
The answer’s we must change
Yes, you’re part of the problem
If you play society’s game.
